STAGE ACTIVITIES

MR. CHARLIE FASANO

Charlie Fasano is an award winning underwater cinematographer based in Hawai'i and Thailand with over 14 years experience. He is also an academically educated marine biologist having started his career in the marine science community.

His knowledge of all aspects of underwater cinematography, from animal logistics, to natural scuba/ freediving techniques, to camera functions and lighting styles, places him at the forefront of the industry. He also served as Executive Director (2011-2014) of the prestigious Ocean Artists Society.

"There is a ZEN attitude to underwater cinematography. One must BE in the environment and BE with the animal. Many different elements must come together in natural form to tell the story of the oceans. This is the TAO of underwater cinematography that I practice and teach. Thailand offers the cinematographer the opportunity to delve into nature and explore it's rich and vast marine diversity and aesthetic beauty."

MR. FEDERIC JENEAU
(Professional Photographer)

Globe-trotter, scuba diving instructor and photographer, Fred is based in Thailand since 2010. Originally from Canada, he enjoys the warmer environment and rich biodiversity Southeast Asia has to offer.

Trained in commercial photography, his professional activities focus on underwater imaging, as well as advertising and reportage photography.

About Zulkarnain Ng....where creativity meets passion. It is his passion to capture the kaleidoscopic world of the above and the oceans and bring it to life on visual and print - from the majestic beauty of the wide world above the sea to the vibrant coral reefs & intricate details of marine life.

Off work, Zul devotes his time in conducting scuba diving & underwater photography courses that brings the mesmerizing world of the deep sea to scutiny under his camera lens. Not only has photography & scuba diving kept him in touch with nature, it has also built invaluable friendships among photographers and scuba divers who share the same passion.

Zul is also the founder of BLANCommunication. This is where he practice his creative thinking as a Graphic Designer which he handle artwork and visual communication as part of his daily routine a combination which give him a perfect gel between creativity and beauty of nature.

MR. KEN THONGPILA

Ken Thongpila has been scuba diving and taking photographs underwater as his hobby since 2003. His passion is macro photography and his favourite critter is the Nudibranch. His photos and diving articles have been featured in diving magazines and websites.

In October 2011 he created the Underwater Macro Photographers (UWMP) Facebook Group, which quickly became popular with the underwater photography community and has more than 37,000 members from all over the world. The aim of the group is “sharing, learning and inspiring each other”.

Along with managing the Facebook group, Ken also produces and edits the UWMP eMag, a regular online magazine, which provides members with tips and techniques for capturing stunning photos of small exotic marine life. From more than 1,000 photo entries each month, a top 10 is selected for DSLR and compact camera categories and showcased in the magazine.

MR. EDWARD LAI

Edward Lai, the founder and CEO of Nauticam, spent the past two decades designing and manufacturing high precision injection molds for electronic, automobile and healthcare products. 8 Years ago, Edward Lai, an avid diver and photographer, felt his skills and experience could help put better housings into the hand of divers, He founded Nauticam and set out to design and make the housings he would like to use and didn't hold back since. Nauticam housings have evolved into true design and engineering marvels which have received five International patents and more are pending. Three prestige Red Dot Design Awards have been earned, as well as the Consumer Product Design Grand Award at the 2013 Hong Kong Award for Industries. In 2013, Edward started picking up underwater lens design and spent hundreds of hour designing the first renowned Super Macro Converter Lens -1, ever since, the company released CMC-1 and most recent WWL-1.

MR. IMRAN AHMAD

Nikon Professional Photographer, Imran Ahmad Bin Rayat Ahmad captures images different from anything seen before.

Always pushing the boundaries of conventional photography, his style is creatively complex and unpredictable. As an internationally published photographer & a member of the Ocean Artist Society, his diversified portfolio includes commercial, editorial, portrait and underwater photographic assignments covering vast areas of Asia and other parts of the world. His work can be found in many diving publications and countless other leading media throughout the region.

He's known as “Master of Experimental Photography with light and motion..His the Asian Star Photographer of the decadeFIRST Photographer out of this selected circle of the Best of the Best who got his own Photographer's edition” - Dietmar Fuchs, Chief Editor for BlancPain - Fifty Fathoms Editions.

MR. TONY WU

Since 1995, Tony has combined his love of visual art with his interest in the marine world through underwater photography, and he has concentrated on using his photographs and writing to encourage others to appreciate and protect the beauty of the oceans. In recent years, Tony has devoted the majority of his time to the challenging disciplines of cetacean photography and documenting mass spawning aggregations of fish. Tony’s images had received international awards in Japan, Europe and the US, including Grand Prize in Japan’s largest marine photo contest; first place in the the underwater category of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition; and the award for Best Book of the Year at the Antibes Festival of Marine Images in France for his book Silent Symphony.
